Background: Obesity is associated with poor glycemic control. In simple terms, obese individuals are more likely to experience a large spike in blood glucose (blood sugar) after consuming carbohydrates.

Results: Obese individuals received either a ketone ester drink or a placebo control drink on two different occasions, before consuming glucose as a test for glycemic control. As compared to the placebo drink, the ketone drink caused the participants to exhibit a smaller glucose (blood sugar) spikes (without an increase in insulin), indicating improved glycemic control.
